Volunteering with Professional Advantage
Rebecca from our Brisbane office has utilised PA’s volunteer time out (VTO) scheme to work with Meals on Wheels within her local community.
She started off on “L” plates as she learned the ropes of picking up the meals, delivering them to the recipients, and returning the eskies. She was also learning all the intricacies that go along with that: handing out the right items to the right people, collecting money, handing out new menus, taking completed menus, and most importantly, having a quick chat.
For her first trip, she shadowed Ingrid, a more experienced driver, and her son.
“The highlight of my first trip was meeting Cherry: 101 years of age and sharp as a tack! The other highlight was that all the houses I went to are within 1 kilometre of where I live. I wanted to do something that was in my community, and this is right in the thick of it.”

“Below are two of the photographs of my last delivery run of last year. My first delivery of the day was to Alan who gave me some roses, and with Cathy and Caroline who run the office. It was a lovely festive run, and I have really enjoyed my volunteer time with them so far. It is really rewarding. Sometimes I may not feel like going out, but I never regret it and always feel great whilst doing it. The volunteers and staff and lovely, and the people who receive the meals are always so appreciative.”
