Does Microsoft 365 Business Premium include Purview?
Microsoft 365 Business Premium includes core Microsoft Purview capabilities such as basic data loss prevention (DLP) for Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business, manual sensitivity labelling and classification, standard eDiscovery and audit features, and Compliance Manager – all useful for foundational data governance and compliance in small and medium‑sized businesses.
However, Microsoft Purview’s full set of advanced compliance and governance features is not included by default with the base Business Premium subscription. Features like endpoint DLP, automatic labelling, insider risk management, communication compliance, premium eDiscovery, advanced audit, and other enterprise‑grade Purview capabilities require purchasing the Microsoft Purview Suite add‑on for Business Premium or moving to a Microsoft 365 enterprise license such as E3 or E5.
In short, Microsoft 365 Business Premium gives you essential Purview tools out of the box, but for complete Microsoft Purview compliance and data governance, you will need an add‑on or higher‑tier licensing.
