Gartner analysts say Qlik’s strong 2016 position is due to its ease of use, powerful analytics and business benefits.

 

Improvements to data visualisation product Qlik Sense have also boosted Qlik’s position relative to Tableau.

 

“Compared with its chief competitors, Tableau and Microsoft, Qlik scores significantly higher on complexity of analysis – which we attribute to its stronger ability to support multiple data sources, a robust calculation engine and associative filtering and search,” analysts wrote.

 

The 2016 Gartner BI Magic Quadrant reflects a shift in the business intelligence market. Traditional BI vendors like IBM and SAP are no longer considered leaders. Oracle is not listed at all.

This is in part because this year's Quadrant focuses on the next generation of BI offerings. Gartner categorises these business intelligence and analytics offerings as Mode 2.

 

Unlike Mode 1 products, which are centrally provisioned, highly governed and controlled by IT, Mode 2 vendors, including Qlik, are:

 

  • Easy to use
  • Provide full analytic and workflow capabilities
  • Do not need extensive IT support to predefine data models.
