By the end of 2-day training, you will be equipped with the basic skills to create impressive reports and dashboards with ease.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is for suitable for people who want to learn how to use Power BI to explore data and build dashboards to gain business insights. No prior analytics or Power BI experience required.

WHAT TO BRING?

For the training, we will provide you with desktops to use with Power BI installed, as well as a USB to take your work back to your office. However, if you wish to bring your own laptop, please ensure it has sufficient permissions to install the Power BI Desktop software. Some organisations lock down installation permissions on their PCs so you may need to work with your IT department and pre-install the Power BI Desktop software prior to the training.

If you use Windows 10, we recommend installing Power BI from the Windows Store. Alternatively, you can download Power BI Desktop here.

Data
It is best to bring along your data in Excel form so you can connect to it easily. This may mean extracting GP Smartlist or other data prior to the Hack Day.

An alternative is to access your data remotely with Power BI. This includes the following:

  • Remotely access your site (by RDP, VPN or Citrix).
  • Have Power BI desktop installed on your site to access remotely.
  • Have a SQL read-only user created to access the data i.e. PowerBIReader.

"The instructor has good knowledge of Power BI and SQL, gave honest advice about the critical steps for data manipulation in Power BI. Greg helped me learn how to do selective slicer using DAX, which I found from website but I wasn’t sure how to do it."
